Trip grades range from easy to strenuous, although it is surprising to know this type of holiday adventure is within reach of most people, as long as you have average fitness, an open mind and a willingness to accept the culture and customs of these ancient Himalayan lands. There are no age limits although we ask you to have a check up with your doctor and prepare physically and psychologically well in advance of your departure date. You will walk, often stroll, approximately 11 kilometres per day, although this will vary according to the terrain.

  • Easy Requires only a small amount of pre-trek training. Involves walking up and down hills and includes gentle days not exceeding 6 hours. No higher than 3,000 meters.
  • Moderate Requires consistent pre-trek training involving frequent walking. Involves walking along well defined local trails, often quite steep. Walking up to 7 hours per day, exceeding 4,000 meters.
  • Challenging Requires tough, extended pre-trek training and good physical fitness. Involves walking at high altitude, sometimes exceeding 5,000 meters, up to 7 hours per day.
  • Strenuous Must have previous walking experience, plenty of stamina and be in excellent physical condition. Involves walking along high, sometimes narrow trails exceeding 5,500 meters, up to 8 hours per day.
